Recently, I had a parent tell me that her baby has colic and she wanted to know how I would handle this. I know for me, I seldom react to things like this in a negative fashion. I tend to focus on the "needs" of the child. Once a child is fed, clean and dry...I have been comforted by listening to music or doing an activity with the kids.
I keep a close and protective eye on the child, but I do not let the crying get to me. I feel like it has to be harder on the parents because they are around the kid and tired.
She felt as if I were saying that I would be ignoring her kid... Duh, what do you think I am doing all day? Am I supposed to have a magic wand and make the kid stop crying??? All I can do is make sure the child is okay...after that...what???
Tell me how you have handled this or would handle this.
Thanks guys!

I think I would be like you ... make sure the childs needs are met ..after that is a matter of making sure they are ok...
parents want that magic wand .. I think they do this and say things like this parent did because they are seeking answers as well.
I always tell parents let me look up some information on that and see what I can find to help all of us out with this.
Colic - yuk! Poor kid ..my son had it for 9 months t he dr said we can put him on meds .. by then I was near insane!
Is this a new baby .. or one you already have ...
what does the dr say to do with him when he gets acting up?
Good Luck with a colicky baby!

He is a new baby and I am not sure that she will be bringing him. She feels that $150 per week is too high for full time care of an infant. I explained that my rates pattern what she will find in our area.

Lavender lotion .. that relaxes they have it in the baby section ...
I have a slip that the parents sign for me to do lotion massages .. if the big kids are gone or sleeping and I have a baby awake .. I love giving baby massages!
Most times it relaxes them enough to go back to sleep
