To get the kids attention at circle time

Open and Shut them
Open and Shut them
Give a Little Clap
Open and Shut them
Open and Shut them
and Lay them in your lap

This quiet time for a story.

Before story time:

Here's Grandma's glasses.
Here's Grandma's hat.
Here's how Grandma folds her hands
Just like that.
(all this said so sweetly with hand motions)

Then....(said do boisterously and gruff like an old gruff man with hand motions)

Here's Grandpa's glasses.
Here's grandpa's hat.
Here's how Grandpa folds his arms
Just like that.

Now let's sit like Grandma!! (said do sweetly)

They love it!

kinda goofy; but I got it from mailbox magazine: adapted for my class

To come and sit for circle time or storytime:
sung to tune of "London Bridges"

Everybody have a seat, have a seat, have a seat.
Everybody have a seat on your mat. (or floor)
Not on the window, not on your hat. (or the door- has to rhyme with mat or floor or whatever word you use there)
Everybody have a seat on your mat.

They will do it and do not realize how silly it sounds (unless older than 2) just like to hear it!

I do this one before lunch ..to gather attention - we eat together not race! and the minute the plates go down I dont want to see crammaramma! we enjoy meals and this helps slow them down.

Also its a great positioning song....
I sing give a little clap clap clap
lay them in your lap lap lap
