Hello everyone! I am not a teacher, just a mom of a 10 month old and a 3 year old. I am looking for some input from you the daycare providers. Do you do activites with the smaller kids? i.e. 8 months - 1 year. I don't think the "class" my 10 month old does anything with the kids other than feed them and let them play with toys all day. I would add sleeping, but my son is always so tired when I pick him up. I just wanted to know what the "norm" was as far as the infants. :?:

Welcome, and let me say I think it's great we have parents that are on the boards asking questions!

I do infants/toddlers in my home, my 10 months olds "play" alot, but thru that play they are learning, to reach, to put an item from one hand to another, to move parts on the toys, listen to the sounds, etc. but I also include them in "hands on art" activites, such as painting, I use my highchair tray for that, just a small amount of paint goes along way for a 10 month old! :D If your child is tired when you pick him up, I'd say tha't a good sign that he's had a playful good time at daycare!

PS

They also get to play in vanilla pudding on their trays, and if they get it in their mouths, which believe me, they will, it's ok!
That's why I ask my parents to please send your child in 'play clothes" not "gucci outfits"

Do you get a copy of your childs daily routine?
Something that shows what he ate and when? When he napped and for how long?

I worked at a center that the 10 mo olds only napped 1x a day ..... now in my home they nap 2 x a day and if they need it more ...... they are growing so fast just remember when they are sleeping thats when they are growing.

What time of day do you pick him up? There is so many things here that could contribute to him being tired.

I will tell ya even my big kids are tired when parents come to pick up .......we are busy busy all day long.

If the teachers seem alert, the room is clean and safe , his needs are being met then I would not worry ..... but if you have red flags floating about then start asking questions! He is your child the most precious gift you will ever have!!

I too am glad we have parents coming in .. this site is not just for daycare people but for anyone who works with children .......You have a child you work with a child :) ask away whatever you want .. glad to see ya here!

I agree 100%, parents need to remember that your children are away from home as much as 10 hours a day, and they are busy little folks!
