Here’s a great idea for a play dough recipe using MEASURE UP!® Cups (A Discovery Toys Product...email stltoylady for more info or to order the cups!)
DISCOVERY DOUGH
Use your Measure Up Cups to measure ingredients, sort colors, roll dough, cut rounds and stamp designs in the dough!
(1) #12-cup Flour
(1) #6 cup of Salt
(1½) #1 cup of Cream of Tartar
(1) #12 cup of Water
(1½) #1 Vegetable Oil
Drops of Food Coloring (or Kool-Aid packet for color & scent: not yellow
Mix dry ingredients in a medium-sized pot.
Mix wet ingredients in a small bowl.
Stir wet mixture into dry mixture. Add more food coloring as desired.
ADULTS ONLY: Stir over medium heat until mixture has the consistency of dough. Let cool to room temperature before playing.
Store your dough in the refrigerator in air-tight containers or zip lock bags up to one month!
Thanks for allowing me to share...

I also have found using paint powder to make the color vibrant and add glitter which makes it purty or confetti for white playday to make it interesting.

For those of you that have children who have developmental delays...try adding small beads and having the childern pinch the dough to locate the beads. Mind you...you will need to carefully supervise them to avoid them putting the items in their mouths.
I bring this up because in addition to being a homecare provider and educational consultant...I am the proud parent of a child with autism.
I accept special needs children only because I have a background in dealing with them. I have only one so far, but it worked out great for everyone involved.

Kool-Aid Play Dough
The children will love the smell of this playdough!
2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup salt
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 cups boiling water
2 packages unsweetened Kool-Aid
Mix dry ingredients. Add oil and water. Wearing gloves, knead for 10 minutes. Store in zip lock bag in refrigerator.
Notes:
1. Your hands may smell of the Kool-Aid flavor even with gloves.
2. Kool-Aid is a powdered drink mix sold in North America. Parents just add sugar and water to make the drink. The powder has both flavoring and color which makes it great for this craft.

Gingerbread Playdough
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 cup water
1 tsp. veg. oil
lots of cinnamon, allspice, ginger, nutmeg, whatever!
(the recipe called for food coloring, red and green to make brown, but I didn't need any after I threw in my spices.)
DIRECTIONS:
Mix the dry ingredients. Play with the spices till you get the scent you want and the color. Mix water and oil together first and THEN add them to the dry ingredients and stir. In a pot, cook the mixture for two to three minutes, stirring frequently. The dough will start to pull away from the sides of the pan and clump together. Take the dough out of the pan and knead the dough until it becomes soft and smooth. Allow to cool and store in an air tight container.

This would be a great ornament because it will make the house smell like gingerbread. Do you think I can dry this over night and it will get hard or do you think I will need to cook it? I have gingerbread cooki cutter. It would look beautiful on my trees with stings of popcorn and cranberries. So tell me what you think?

I don't know why it wouldn't make a great ornament .. I would put the oven on low and dry them out slow ... or in a food dehydrator ..
- idea baggie up balls of the Gingerbread play dough ...
put in a already stamped up bag and tie close with ribbons .. give for a gift .. would be a nice gift for the kids to give to friends or neighbor kids. To and From tag can be made from a ginger bread man cookie cutter traced onto paper

Ok deborah I finally used the gingerbread playdough to make my ornaments. It took two days to dry on it own and they turn out cute and smell good. You will notice in the pictures that is looks like powder sugar sprinkled on them when it is fully dried that is how they turned out.
